GOLD VERMEIL
Inside the World of Vermeil
What is Gold Vermeil?
Say it with us: ver-may. Gold vermeil is our go-to for elevated, everyday pieces. It starts with a base of sterling silver (so yes, it’s quality through and through), coated in a thick layer of 18k solid gold—at least 5 layers of gold. That’s what sets it apart from standard gold plating. The result? Jewelry that looks and feels luxe, without the solid gold price tag. Perfect for stacking, styling, and wearing on repeat.
Vermeil vs. Gold-Plated—What’s the Difference?
It all comes down to thickness and base metals. Gold vermeil features a substantial layer of gold—at least 2.5 microns thick—that's at least 5 layers of gold over a sterling silver base. That means it's made entirely of precious metals.
Gold-plated jewelry? It uses a thinner layer of gold (as little as 0.5 microns) over a more affordable base metal like copper or brass. So while it may look similar at first glance, vermeil offers more longevity and a higher-quality finish.

First, a little gold science.
We like to keep things real—and that starts with materials. Gold vermeil begins with a base of sterling silver, meaning your jewelry is made entirely from precious metals. Sterling silver is 92.5% pure silver, blended with other alloy metals for strength.
From there, a thick layer of real gold—at least 2.5 microns—is electroplated on top. (Think of it as a luxe layering technique.) To be considered true vermeil, the gold has to be at least 10k, but we go a step further: our vermeil pieces are coated in 18k gold for that rich tone and everyday durability.
And in case you’re wondering: karats (k) measure the purity of gold (not to be confused with carats—those measure gemstone weight). 18k gold is made up of 75% pure gold, blended with other metals to give it strength, shine, and that signature glow.
VERMEIL CARE
Gold vermeil is made to last—but like anything you love, it deserves a little care. We suggest removing your pieces before showering, swimming, working out, or applying lotions and perfumes.
A few care tips:
– Remove jewelry before sleeping, swimming, and working out.
– Store each piece separately to prevent scratches.
– Buff regularly with a polishing cloth to maintain shine.
– Clean gently with mild dish soap and warm water when needed.
– Always pat dry with a lint-free cloth before storing.
– Avoid exposure to lotions, perfumes, and harsh chemicals.
Noticed a little tarnish? No big deal. Just buff gently with a soft, dry cloth and your jewelry will be back to glowing in no time.
